new or resale flat?

had a long discussion with dear over the phone regarding the fundamental issue of the flat.

dear is interested in the coral spring project @ sengkang which will be ready in oct-2012. she also let me know of her plan, which is to secure the flat first so that we can have up to 5 years to save up and prepare for the flat, and after which the ROM and dinner..

although my idea is to get a resale flat near her parents as we can have the grant and we do not need to wait for 5 years, i've fine with the coral spring project as its a new flat although the location is abit off. however, i disagreed with dear's idea that the ROM and dinner can come after the flat as "she has friends who practice that..."

one thing i reminded dear, ie we do not have the luxury of time aka age is not on our side. imagine the flat coming at 2012, where we will be about 32/33, and the ROM and dinner will take another year or two, and by the time we finish everything we will be almost in our mid-30s already! how to have chilren by then? she agreed that she didn't take age into consideration when she made that comment...

i suggested another alternative to her, ie we can still get the new flat in 5 years time, but we will ROM and have the dinner within the next 3 years. by the time we get the keys for the house we might even have our first kid already! haha! however there is a catch for this option: she will have to stay with her in-laws for about two years... *fingers crossed*

anyway we will probably still apply and see the outcome. as dear mentioned "let fate decide if we shall get resale or new flat..."
